Call for Views - International Transfers Guidance

Closes 7 Aug 2025

Opened 26 Jun 2025

Overview

The ICO wants to hear your views on our current international transfers guidance

In January of this year we published the letter we sent to the Prime Minister, the Chancellor and the Business Secretary in response to their request to the Information Commissioner for proposals to boost business confidence, improve the investment climate, and foster sustainable economic growth. In our response we committed to publishing new and updated guidance on international transfers, making it quicker and easier for businesses to transfer data safely.

Why your views matter

We want to understand how we can make our guidance as clear, practical, and accessible as possible. So we’d like to hear what you think about our current guidance. Your views will help us to make changes that meet your needs.

What we’re asking

We’d like your views on:

  • Which aspects of our guidance are most helpful to you?
  • Are there aspects of our guidance that you find difficult to understand or apply?
  • What tools or guidance products would make international transfers easier, quicker, or less complicated for your organisation?

The consultation will remain open until the end of Thursday 7 August 2025. We may not consider responses received after this deadline.

This call for views only relates to our transfers guidance under UK GDPR. We are planning separate work on our DPA Part 3 (processing for law enforcement purposes) transfers guidance.
